1. How do I know which group to ride in?
If this is your first ride with our group, please plan to ride in our C or D group so that you can familiarize yourself with our route, etiquette, and ride safety protocols. After your first ride and when you feel comfortable, you can group up in a group appropriate to your present fitness and ride skill level.
2. What if I want to try a ride with TNRG to see if it would be a fit for me before I sign-up?
Before you become a member you can have one free no obligation “Try-out” ride with us to see what we are about. If you would like to do a Try-out ride click here for more information.
3. Why do I need to become licensed with Cycling BC to be a TNRG member?
Your Cycling BC licence gives you liability insurance for claims that may be made against you. By requiring all our members to be Cycling BC licensed we know that all our riders carry that liability insurance. This protects you, your fellow riders and our directors.
4. What equipment do I need?
Equipment | Road Rides | Gravel Rides |
---|---|---|
Helmets | All riders must wear a helmet when participating in any of our rides | |
Bikes | All bikes must be in a safe condition for riding | |
Road bikes with drop handlebars | Gravel or Cyclocross bikes with drop handlebars, or mountain bikes with approval | |
Fenders | Full coverage with crap flaps (almost touching the ground in back) are mandatory, in order to protect yourself and other riders | Optional, but you will incur the wrath of your fellow riders if you do not stay at the back of the pack and behind those with fenders |
Lights | In low-light conditions (including on the way to or from the ride), lights are required: white on the front, red on the back | Same as for the road rides, plus a helmet-mounted headlamp. |
No fast-flashing / strobing lights, but a light that changes slowly between two levels is okay | ||
Tools | Spare tube, tire levers, and a means of inflation for when the inevitable eventually occurs. |
