TNRG Weekly Meet-Up Information & Ride Routes
Start Location
All sanctioned rides start at Iroquois Park in Sidney, BC.
April to September - ROAD Rides
Tuesday Nights 6 pm
Road riding (April to Steptember) start time varies by season in order to maximize daylight hours for the ride. The season starts the first Tuesday in April with rides at 5:30 pm, and moves to 6 pm when there is enough daylight to allow completing rides before dark. 6 pm starts continue until the fall when the start time moves back to 5:30 as sunset times start to close in. The last group road ride is the last Tuesday in September.
Note: As one or two of the first and last rides of the year will probably end in darkness, expect to need full lights and reflective clothing.
Distance
Our usual routes are distances between 40 - 56 k depending on which group you ride with.
Pace
Note the range of pace speeds reflects rides near the beginning vs near the end of the season. A/B/C rides will get faster as the summer passes, and you may be asked to move up or down a group if you are too fast or can't keep up.
A group 30-36+ km/hr average - no drop; this group is suitable for the fastest riders
B group 26-30 k/hr average - no drop; regroup locations determined pre-ride; this group is suitable for riders with good technical riding skills and the fitness to maintain the average pace; leader pre-arranged. Group may be split into a slow and a fast group depending on the number and mix of riders in the group.
C group 24-26 k/hr average - no drop; regroup locations determined pre-ride; leader pre-arranged
D group < 24 k/hr average - no drop; ride at the pace of the slowest rider; more group up locations determined pre-ride; leader pre-arranged if we get enough folks to commit to this group

October to March - Gravel Rides
Tuesday Nights 6 pm
From the first Tuesday in October until the end of March, the Tuesday night ride switches to a Gravel ride to reduce the time spent on darkened streets and to offer a different challenge to our members. Rides start at 6:00 pm, and usually happen rain or shine.
The standard ride is to the TNRGravel route, alternating between Clockwise and Counter-Clockwise each week for variety.
Pace
Gravel rides are not paceline rides as the trail sections dictate that a safe separation must be maintained. There are stops to meet up, usually at the start and end of each trail section, and there will be lots of opportunities to catch up if needed -- being a faster or slower rider matters less on the Gravel rides. If the group gets too large, it may be split in two and the faster group does the regular route and the slower group does the Shorter Route.

Longer rides for people hoping to build miles in the saddle and/or work on their hills. Will most likely involve a coffee/cake/pastry stop along the route, at one of: Bean Around The World, Marigold Cafe, Mosi Bakery Cafe, or The Nest. All rides start at Iroquois Park at 9 am, with possible delay to 10 am to let the sun melt the frost off the road in the cooler months.
